budd.e

budd.e is a platform for members of a community garden to connect and trade foods. It facilitates trade of locally grown food between neighbors and care for the community garden. Budd.e is designed to enhance the experience growing locally to ultimately create a stronger community. Working with Ara Lee and Madeline Chan, we conducted research on the slow food system and in-depth interviews with local businesses to understand the needs of the community.

Site Analysis

We began by researching "Slow Food", a movement to counteract fast food and fast life. We asked ourselves how can we encourage local food traditions and liven people's dwindling interest in the food they eat, where it comes from, and how it tastes? We did side research on the Strip District, our proposed garden study, and interviewed community members and local businesses. After finding key problems and needs of community and biodiversity, we created personas, scenarios, and wireframes to inform our design.

Personas

To better understand the population of Pittsburgh and the different demographics budd.e could cater towards, we created 3 different personas. The personas allowed us to better understand how much time and dedication budd.e would require, and the services that it would provide. Does it need to be something that becomes integrated into our daily routine? Or is it more of a casual hobby that the user can choose to do once in a while. We also thought about the nearby restaurants in the area and how we could integrate their businesses and services into the app so that the community could expand as well as prevent waste.
